Palestinian Women Tactics and Speech

Once we started talking about the Palestinian women article by Hanaa
Hamdan-Saliba and Tovi Fenster in class, I then became more interested in this topic. So, after a little research, I found a YouTube video of a Palestinian women giving a speech on the topic of a wall where children have lived all their lives. They plan to have a graduation party for these specific children, in hopes that by everyone coming together the wall will fall down. She talks about how the Palestinian people are being punished by the democratic choice. She talks about how the expansion of the Israel borderline is in the works but helping out the Israeli people is not talked about. as stated in the article there are proactive tactics and non-active tactics. the proactive tactics create alternative spaces of being for the women, as did the space where this speech is given. It gave them a place to let everything out. it created a place where they can have some opportunity in life, as well as talk about the problems they have as being oppressed groups. for example, as talked about in the video, she states "if we don’t do the two-state solution now and you create tens and tens of candles and ghettos for the Palestinian people it will never preview security it will never bring you peace only sitting down on a negotiation table that's the only way to bring justice based on international regulations based on the 67th all the time"
I felt this was interesting talk because it went into depth into some of the problems of the Palestinian people. as well as it talks about how the children were locked behind a wall their entire life and the people wanted that wall knocked down. But unfortunately, without the help of government of the people coming together as one nation, that wall will not budge. where the children are living is a example of home and how spaces can be created as homes.

  1. I find really interesting the that you associated the concept of the wall with the home construction process, even if Palestinians are not living exactly next to the wall they are influenced by its presence. I know by some articles and because I have some Palestinian friends, that there are specific doors they can use depending on the type of ID they got from the Israeli government. There are times that people have to make a detour to get to their jobs even if they have a door that would let them have a easier and quicker access to their destination. There are a lot of ways in which Palestinians resist to the occupation in general, but many of them are not seen because they are non-active tactics or/and are performed in the reproductive sphere. I think this is a very important topic, especially now with all the problems that will emerge with the movement of the US embassy to Jerusalem.
